DOGS BEHAVING BADLY

Specialising in Behavioural and Training Issues

What Does a Behavioural Consultation Involve?

A behavioural consultation uses canine psychology to identify and understand the motivation, rewards and the emotions behind a specific dog's behaviour. This knowledge can then be used to modify that behaviour using positive, kind, and reward-based methods.

Consultations are held in the dog's home environment where the behaviour can be discussed and hopefully observed, and the most appropriate, effective advice can be given.
Dogs (and owners) are generally less stressed in a familiar environment, and being at home makes learning and re-training a lot easier.

A consultation will normally last about 2 hours, and will include:

  • Talking through your dog's behavioural issues and taking a full problem history
  • Observing the behaviour where possible (using video material if available), and identifying and understanding the motivations, emotions and rewards behind it
  • Offering advice and suggesting a behaviour modification programme tailored specifically to your dog.
I will telephone you 2-4 weeks after the consultation to check on progress, but am always available via telephone or e-mail if you need extra advice or have any questions or problems after the consultation.

A short written report is available on request, which lists the recommendations discussed and agreed at the consultation.

Most canine behavioural problems can be dealt with effectively during one consultation, but this will ultimately depend on the nature and severity of the dog's problem.  Follow-up consultations can be arranged if required.
